Explanation: These are not domains such as microsoft.com or sun.com.
Instead, they are areas of your server that you can set access control to.
Securing: To do this group and user accounts need to be created. Think of
it as departments and employees. Once this is done, areas of the server can restrict access to or only allow certain users or groups. This is configurable in the server software. A popup window on the browser that asks for Username and Password is what the server uses to find out “who” the surfer is.
When to Use: This is one of the most common ways used on the Internet to
restrict access to areas of a web site. Excellent for sensitive information that is medium to highly confidential.
