Indexing of Medical Data with UMLS
Employed similar trial with 8 indexers used the same output from the 1996 trial
Results employing 1997 LSVT-enhanced UMLS version
- An average of 11.9 indexing terms were entered per indexer for each image, for a total of 784 terms
- 74% (300 terms) were found in the 1997 version of the UMLS
- value ranged from 47 % found to 100 % found, with a median of 74 % found, so there was a broad variation among indexers
- result of the UMLS enhanced LSVT have thus produced a greater than two-fold increase in efficiency, based on these results.
Conclusion - satisfactory indexing (only 74% avg.)
Outcome - we are now recruiting indexers to add other Medical WWW sites
