This Web site was designed to be a resource for physicians
that consult the muscle and nerve biopsy service as well
as their patients, fellow pathologists, and physicians from
other specialties, primarily those that study patients with
genetic-metabolic disease. The links reflect sites I have
found useful and wish to offer to others for both professional
and personal use. The links to searchable databases as well
as the area on computers should be of interest to all.
The site occupies a modest 5 MB personal home page allocation that I received when subscribing to the Road Runner™ cable modem service offered by Time Warner Communications. The index page introduces me, links to my email and curriculum vitae, and has three [buttons] on the lower part of the page: [Ask a Question], [Resources], and [Muscle & Nerve].
[Resources] resides within [Muscle & Nerve] and is subdivided into three main categories: {Medical}, {General}, & {Computer}. {Medical} has subcategories of muscle-nerve, mitochondria, molecular-metabolic, and pathology. Mitochondria and molecular-metabolic are a rich resource of contacts for diagnostic testing in the respective fields of study. Pathology has links to the major organizations in the field. {General} has subcategories for books, searches and technical sites. Books includes medical and non-medical books and the federal tax forms site. Searches includes Web engines and searchable databases for antibodies, chemistry, protein/nucleic acid, congenital anomalies (OMIM), the Thomas Register, and the US Patent & Trademark site. {Computer} has subcategories for accessories, hard/software, info/support, and security.
[Muscle & Nerve] is a great place for patients and docs to learn about what happens in a muscle biopsy. The tests & stains section has photomicrographs of the major muscle stains and catalogs the muscle immunostains that our lab offers. Protocols for tissue handling are also listed.
Future direction of the site will be responsive to feedback. Current plans are to expand the number of images in the muscle and nerve section to catalog pathological processes.
