This is the Web site of the Walter Reed Army Medical Center Department of Pathology and Area Laboratory Services (DPALS). The site also serves as the National Capital Consortium (NCC) Pathology Residency website. The DPALS pages introduce the public to DPALS, which is one of the largest laboratories in the Department of Defense. The hospital serves as a worldwide referral center for Army medical centers and hospitals as well as for the other military services. The patient population served by the Department of Pathology and Area Laboratory Services includes approximately 300,000 active duty military, retired military, and family members of both. It contains information on DPALS, sections within the laboratory, and staff pathologists, with links and phone numbers to contact personnel. It also contains information and contact information for the four training programs DPALS currently supports (Pathology Residency, Clinical Laboratory Officers Course, Armed Services Specialist In Blood Banking, and Medical Laboratory Technician Course).

The NCC Pathology Residency website serves a joint residency program between Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the National Naval Medical Center. The site offers information and overview on the residency program, goals, objectives, policies, research opportunities, resident assessment, and contact information to both prospective candidates and current residents. The site is commonly consulted by medical students for information about pathology as a career and medical student resources. It also provides over 300 links to pathology-related journal, educational, organizational, genetic, and departmental websites. There are also several links to recent resident and staff lectures, as well as over 300 links for clinical journals. Several case studies in surgical pathology are also available.

A unique residents-only area allows residents to submit staff and rotation evaluations to the program and assistant program directors, view the resident manual, monthly lecture schedule, rotation calendar, and call schedule. Residents can also view instructions on submitting cases to the case study area of the website and link to a resident discussion/billboard area. Residents rotating at up to six institutions can check the website for rotation, lecture, or call schedule changes, thereby facilitating resident communication and program unity.
