Anatomic Pathology in general, and cytopathology specifically has been traditionally taught with glass slides, kodochromes, or still images when applicable.
We explored the benefits of developing and implementing an interactive teaching study set using web-based multimedia tools that were readily available and could be used by practicing pathologists and residents with basic computer skills.
This interactive presentation discusses the applications, technique, and principles of Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA), and its applications to Head & Neck cytopathology. Pretest and post-test questions were included. Web-based multimedia tools such as Flashpix™ still images (which can be zoomed/panned online), and RealMedia™ movies (which can be viewed and listened to at any time), are used to both illustrate some of the educational aspects and create an experience which simulates "real life" microscopic teaching.
