Immunohistochemistry is invaluable in tumor diagnosis. However, with the wide spread use of immunohistochemistry, continued technical improvements and the ever-increasing number of available antibodies, the information on immunoreactivity of various neoplasms has become unwieldy. A computer-based database would be a practical aid for managing this rapidly expanding information. We designed this web site to provide a practical tool to look up information on tumor diagnosis, in general, and immunohistochemistry, in particular.
The database can be searched either by tumor name or the immunohistochemical marker. A scrollable list of tumor names is provided and clicking a name will generate a table with the relevant antibodies and the reaction patterns (as +, - or +/-). Similarly, a search by marker name can be done by going to the marker list and clicking a specific antibody. Again, a table is generated with the relevant tumors and their respective reaction patterns.
This initial database version will provide a quick reference for immunohistochemical information. The next version, under development, is an integrated database for diagnostic pathology and, in addition to immunohistochemical data, will include concise descriptions of the clinical as well as pathologic features of the tumor, and images illustrating the gross and microscopic features.
This resource is available to any one with access to the World Wide Web.
